Details tend to be in the forefront of our minds on a regular basis. This is a good thing unless you’re trying to follow God. Then the details often need to fade to the background. Let me explain why.
Take Adam and Eve for example. They were given very little details but simply the big picture. “And the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it…the Lord God commanded the man saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat’”
Big picture
Here is this paradise that is yours and now work it and keep charge of it without eating from the one tree.
No details were given. No descriptions or explanations or why or how. Just an invitation to focus on the big picture and enjoy what God had given them. He was planning on walking with them daily and teaching them the details as they went.
But the fall came in the details. The serpent starting whispering detail questions to Eve. Why can’t you? How would death happen? What would be the point in not using this particular fruit?
Details sometimes trip us up in our walk with the Lord.
God says forgive and we say but you don’t know the details of what happened.
God says follow me and we say as long as it lines up with financial freedom, personal prosperity, and a loving community we will go.
God says give me your tithes and offerings and we say but you don’t understand the details of my finances and how hard that would be.
Sometimes obedience comes when we ignore the details and just walk in the big picture.
Because He wants to walk with you through the details. He will heal you as you forgive IN SPITE of the circumstances. He will bless you as you walk with Him regardless of what dreams or goals you may have given up. He will provide for your needs as you trust him with your finances.
Obedience doesn’t require details. It just requires trust.
The question for today is how much do you trust God when He doesn’t give you any details?
